nuclear infrastructure reportedly have
also slowed their rate of progress.
While his opponents can talk tough
on Iran, the president is doing what is
necessary to prevent Iran from devel-
oping a nuclear weapon.
Nevertheless, despite clear facts and
substantial evidence, political parti-
sans and opponents of the president
continue a coordinated campaign to
distort reality in a brazen attempt to
fool the public. The same type of peo-
ple who called Obama a closet Muslim
and claimed he was not born in the
United States now exercise linguistic
calisthenics to obfuscate the truth and
portray the president as hostile to the
Jewish state.
Nothing could be further from the
truth.

Stands Strong
Not long ago, while sitting in the Oval
Office, Obama looked me in the eye
and said, "My commitment to Israel's
security is bone deep." He did not have
to say it. I already knew that President
Obama would never forsake the Jewish
state, its security and its people. His
record of performance is crystal clear

a service of Jewish Senior Life

and the charlatans cannot change that.
My father before me actively sup-
ported Jewish communities around
the world and, prior to 1948, worked
closely with those establishing the
modern State of Israel. For more than
a half century, I have worked with
successive Israeli governments and
U.S. presidents — Republican and
Democrat — to provide for the safety
and security of the Jewish people and
the State of Israel.
My family has loved, worked,
invested in and supported the State
of Israel, its security and its people
since before its founding. We have not
always agreed with its policies, but we
have always been there to support and
defend its government and people. We
are connected to every facet of Jewish
life and want nothing more than
Israel's peace, security, vibrancy and
prosperity.
I am confident that President Obama
shares our values, and I shall confident-
ly vote for him in November.

ENTREES

When ordinary Iranians bravely
took to the streets in 2009 to protest
their country's stolen election, the
Obama administration was shameful-
ly silent. We cannot say what would
have happened had America's moral
authority been brought to bear, but
we can say that with the bloody sup-
pression of the protesters, a once-in-
a-generation chance to rid the world
of a vicious regime was missed.

Romney Will Act
The failed record of Barack Obama's
diplomacy suggests he does not take
seriously the threatening words of the
Iranians and is therefore not taking
seriously the threat they present to
both Israel and the United States. If
Iran is permitted to acquire nuclear
weapons, it will dominate the Middle
East, igniting proxy wars with impu-
nity and making nuclear terrorism a
perpetual and horrific danger.
We need a leader in the White
House who both understands these
perils and will act to avert them. We
cannot afford to wait until the dan-
gers are already upon us.
As president, Obama has toured
the world and toured the Middle

East, choosing Cairo as the location
to deliver a major address. He has yet
to visit Israel, our closest ally in the
region. He seems to labor under the
illusion that the Israeli-Palestinian
dispute lies at the center of the
Middle East's problems, even as the
region is wracked by war and revolu-
tion unrelated to Israel.
Mitt Romney, the former
Massachusetts governor, has a differ-
ent view. He understands that Israel
is targeted by the region's failed states
as a convenient scapegoat. He also
understands that there is a worldwide
campaign to demonize the Jewish
state. It is for this very reason that he
has pledged that his first foreign trip
as president will be to Jerusalem. He
intends to send a signal to the world
— and especially to Israel's adversar-
ies — that the United States is not
a fair-weather friend of Israel, but a
partner in an abiding relationship
based upon a common commitment
to our most fundamental values.
