Local Technion Society
Names New Director
Joseph Selesny of Southfield has been
named director of the East Central
Region of the American Technion
Society (ATS), which serves Detroit,
Cleveland, Pittsburgh and surrounding
areas.
Selesny brings to the position years
of experience building donor relation-
ships, working closely with volunteers
and advocating for Israel-based causes.
Members of the
region have support-
ed some of the lead-
ing projects on the
campus in Haifa,
such as the D. Dan
and Betty Kahn
Mechanical
Joseph
Engineering
Selesny
Building.
Before joining the
ATS, Selesny was a major gifts officer
at Birthright Israel Foundation. From
2001-2010, he served as associate
director, financial resource develop-
ment, at the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit.
Selesny is fluent in Hebrew and
studied for two and a half years in
Israel after high school. He earned
his bachelor's degree in history
from Yeshiva University in 1995 and
his MBA in finance at Lawrence
Technological University in 2010.
Selesny is a native Detroiter with
deep roots in the community. He
serves as an executive board mem-
ber of the Hebrew Memorial Chapel
in Oak Park and a board member
of Akiva Hebrew Day School in
Southfield. He was formerly a board
member of JARC.

Zamir Chorale Slates
Open Auditions
The Zamir Chorale of Metropolitan
Detroit is holding open auditions
for people of all faith traditions who
would like to sing in a quality choral
group. Auditions will be Wednesday,
Sept. 5, at 7 p.m. at Temple Shir
Shalom, West Bloomfield.
The Zamir Chorale creates a mean-
ingful Jewish musical experience,
offering members an opportunity to
come together in Jewish song and fel-
lowship.
The chorale is directed by Cantor
Penny Steyer and is accompanied by
Ted Wyman. Zamir rehearses weekly
during the fall, winter, and spring
at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield and performs four to six
concerts a year. There is an annual
membership fee of $100, but waivers
are available.
