In 1902, Ida Kopple and Blanche Hart took a small group of Russian immigrant children to Belle Isle for a little "fresh air." In 2012, the Fresh Air Society (now known as Tamarack Camps) completed its 110th year of providing Jewish camping experiences to four generations of Detroiters and looks forward to its future. "Tamarack was such an integral part of growing up in the Detroit Jewish community and it continues to be," said Steve Engel, Tamarack Camp executive director. "The older genera- tion, many of them came to camp as scholarship campers and are now our largest donors. Their children came to camp and now their children's children come to camp."
