on't miss the Pitch
for Detroit Charity
Softball Tournament
on Sunday, Aug. 26,
from 8 a.m.-6 p.m., at Inglenook
Park, 20901 W. 12 Mile Road in
Southfield. In addition to the softball
tournament, there will be a barbecue
lunch, musical entertainment and fun
games for the whole family.
Event co-founders Adam Blanck
and Benjy Gordon brought the
idea for Pitch For Detroit to
CommunityNEXT, a division of
NEXTGen Detroit powered by the
Jewish Federation, in 2010 because
they wanted the opportunity
to do something meaningful
for the community. The team at
CommunityNEXT turned their idea
into a reality.
Pitch For Detroit not only gives
young adults in the area a chance
to reconnect with one another and
their community through sport
and charity, the community-wide
event also continues to build on the
momentum for revitalizing the city.
The Do It For Detroit Fund is
the official beneficiary of this

year's tournament. The DI4D Fund
aims to empower the "next gen"
population and Detroit ex-pats
around the country to find relevant
and meaningful ways to transform
the city.
This year, the proceeds from the
event will be allocated in the form of
micro-grants from $500 to $3,000 to
individuals or organizations looking
to conduct high-impact community
projects to create social change in
the city of Detroit.
Additionally, funds will be given
back to CommunityNEXT to ensure
the ability to partner and fund
community service opportunities
throughout the 2013-2014
programming year.
Pitch for Detroit is being done
in partnership with Repair the
World — an organization building a
movement to make service a defining
element of American Jewish life,
learning and leadership.
You can logon to www.
pitchfordetroit.com to sign up as a
player or to sponsor a player in the
tournament. As of press time, nearly
$48,000 had already been raised.
