H

oward B. Camden, 83, an
insurance executive of West
Bloomfield, died peacefully
Aug. 12 in his home, following a brief
illness.
He began his career when he joined
his father, Joseph Camden, in the insur-
ance business in 1950. Over the years,
the practice evolved to one that special-
ized in the area of large commercial
property and casualty accounts as well
as life insurance. Mr. Camden earned
both the CLU and CPCU designations,
which are the highest credentials in the
insurance industry. In addition, he was
recognized by the state of Michigan as
both a Life Insurance Counselor and
a Property and Liability Insurance
Counselor.
He was a pioneer in studying and
adapting the philosophy of "risk man-
