Short Takes
Zach Braff, 37, will reunite with his
Scrubs co-star Donald Faison in the
Wednesday, Aug. 29, episode of The
Exes, a TV Land comedy airing at

10:30 p.m. Faison plays Phil, a wom-
anizing sports agent who shares
an apartment with a nice, recently
divorced dentist (David Alan Basche,
43) and a couch potato who sells
stuff on the Internet
(Wayne Knight). Braff
will guest-star as
Phil's new client, a
pro tennis player.
Knight, of course,
is best known for
playing "Newman"
Braff
on Seinfeld. The titu-
lar star of the show,
Jerry Seinfeld, 58, is starring in a new
Web-only series, Comedians in Cars
Getting Coffee (comediansincars
gettingcoffee.com), whose premise is
once again "a show about nothing."
Jerry drives a comedian to a coffee
shop, and they ban-
ter about this and
that.
In the first episode,
co-starring Seinfeld
co-creator Larry
David, 65, there's
a lot of talk about
David's refusal to

drink coffee. The next two posted epi-
sodes feature, respectively, comedians
Ricky Gervais and Brian Regan. All are
about 14 minutes long. One starring
Alec Baldwin will be up soon.
Seinfeld, by the way, is scheduled
to perform at Detroit's Fox Theatre on
Saturday, Oct. 6 (tickets are currently
on sale).
Photos have just been released of
Halle Berry playing a white Jewish
woman in the upcoming sci-fi fantasy
film Cloud Atlas, opening in October.
The film's characters morph as they
travel through time. Google the name
of Berry's Jewish character, Jocasta
Ayers, and you'll come across a pic of
the amazing makeup job.
Something happy, something sad:
Various sources are reporting that
Olympic gold-medal winning gymnast
Aly Raisman, 18, has accepted an
Israeli government invitation to visit
Israel with her whole family.
On Aug.14, the funeral of composer
Marvin Hamlisch took place at New
York's Temple Emanuel-El. President
Clinton said about Hamlisch in his
funeral eulogy: "Genius is rare enough,
but a good-hearted
genius is rarer still.
A good-hearted,
humble and hilari-
ous genius? Almost
unheard of."
