Leinoff, after the war. He'd
been a lieutenant in Europe as-
signed to the legendary Red Ball
Express, an extensive convoy
system that moved up to 12,000
tons of ammunition, fuel and
supplies per day to Allied units
on the front lines. Convoy duty
was dangerous. The majority of
truck drivers were African Ameri-
cans, and many of their officers
were Jewish.
Following their marriage in
1949, the Leinoffs settled in De-
troit and raised two daughters.
