metro >> around town Gift Of Giving JCC day campers hold toy drive for Bottomless Toy Chest. y oni Nadiv, unit head of the Trekkers (ages 9-12) at the Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit day camp in West Bloomfield, was looking for something meaningful for his campers to do this summer. He contacted Elana Weinstein, program coordinator of the Bottomless Toy Chest in Birmingham, to set up a way for the campers to help other kids in the community. He felt the Bottomless Toy Chest, which collects toys for pediatric cancer patients, was a perfect organization for a tikkun olam (repair of the world) project. For several months, Trekkers hosted a campwide toy drive to collect new toys. They created a great sign to promote the toy drive, which amassed 150 toys. On July 17, Trekkers and staff spent the day wrapping toys themselves and giving them a personal touch meant to lift the spirits of the hospi- talized patients. The event was called "Chanukah in July" Malik Molloy wraps gifts. Yoni Nadiv speaks with his campers about helping kids through the Bottomless Toy Chest.
