ORT Rub-A-Dub Set For Aug. 22

F

or nearly 30 years, ORT
America Michigan Region
has raised significant funds
through its annual Rub-a-Dub, which
draws more than 400 people. This
year's event is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 22, at Franklin Hills Country Club
in Farmington Hills.
The first event took place in the
garage of the late Ambassador David B.
Hermelin, past president of World ORT,
and his wife, Doreen, a past president
of ORT America and a current national
board member. Initially, their guests
bought hundreds of instant lottery tick-
ets and then got together to rub off the
silver foil to see if they had any winners
— hence the name "Rub-a-Dub."
The theme this year is "ORT With
Friends." New for 2012, the Foster
Brooks Band will be playing after the
live auction.
Rub-a-Dub is known for its silent
and live auctions. Event co-chairs Scott
Marcus, Pam Nodel and Seth Rogers,
and members of the Rub-a-Dub com-
mittee have a lineup that includes a
three-month summer lease of a Jaguar
XK convertible and a meet-and-greet
with rock star Gene Simmons of KISS
in Los Angeles with accommodations
