And he did — as a real estate develop- er, mortgage executive and banker — all in a highly successful manner over a span of six decades. - Mr. Rose, 86, of Bloomfield Hills, died of complications of Parkinson's disease at Royal Oak's Beaumont Hospital on July 22, 2012. He had contracted Parkinson's in his early 70s, but remained active as a businessman until a few weeks before his death. Mr. Rose's business career started after a stint in the U.S. Navy toward the end of World War II when he emerged with the rank of ensign. He joined Edward Rose and Sons, a real estate development company founded by his father, a Russian immigrant, in 1921. Irving Rose was a partner in the firm with his brothers, Sheldon and Leslie. Spreading out from real estate, Mr. Rose started a family mortgage business, Advanced Mortgage Corp., the largest in the area at the time, in the early 1970s. It was later sold to Citicorp, now Citigroup. Mr. Rose became a banker Irving Rose in the same decade when he co-founded Fidelity Bank of Birmingham with his brothers. The bank, with 15 branches, was sold to Dearborn Bancorp in 2007 in a $70 million stock deal. Huntington Bancorp of Cincinnati bought the organization from the Dearborn firm. Edward Rose & Sons, at first developing single homes in Detroit, entered the apart- ment field over the years and now owns and operates 56,000 apartment units in 11 states. Mr. Rose's nephew, Warren Rose of Bloomfield Hills, is the firm's CEO, over- seeing branches in Flint, Kalamazoo and Indiana. The company's first assisted living home is being built in Memphis, Tenn. "My father really enjoyed all facets of the business; he was well rounded in all aspects of his work',' said daughter Eileen Ruby, of Piedmont, Calif., a suburb of San Francisco."His entrepreneurial prowess real- ly came to the forefront when he started the mortgage and bank businesses. "Our family really had a lot of fun together as we grew up in the Palmer Park area of Detroit. We also took many trips together:' ARDA BARENHOLTZ, 85, of Huntington Woods, died July 28, 2012. She was first a policewoman with the Detroit Police Force and then went back to school and became an attorney with Wayne County Friends of the Court. After 30 years, she went into private practice as an elder care attorney. She was a volunteer with Free Legal Aid, the Detroit Opera House, the Fisher Theater and was also an active member of Temple Israel and the Temple Treasures. She had her bat mitzvah when she was in her 60s. Ms. Barenholtz is survived by her sister- in-law, Clara Barenholtz; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-neph- ews, one great-great-niece and a world full of wonderful friends. She was a dear sister and sister-in- law of the late Ben and the late Jane Barenholtz, the late Joseph and the late Shirley Barenholtz, the late Seymour Barenholtz, the late Evelyn and the late David Cobb, the late Anne and the late Gene Zolin. His daughter Eileen is following in his footsteps by being active in her community; she is past president of the Jewish Federation of the East Bay near San Francisco. "Iry was extremely active in our Federation, serving on the board, the [Detroit United Jewish] Foundation board and various committees," pointed out Bob Aronson, who is now special gifts adviser to the Federation. "He specialized in investment and capital and provided us with valuable advice. "He was an intellectual, a learned man and a quiet philanthropist. He made a huge difference in our Jewish community, giving us much support with little fanfare — and he also had a strong love for Israel. "He was a dear friend, and all of us will miss him very much." Irving Rose is survived by his wife of 67 years, Audrey; daughters and sons-in- law, Janice and Robert Ross of Bloomfield Hills, Eileen and Robert Ruby of Piedmont, Calif., Kathy Rose of Baltimore, Md.; grand- children, Tyler and Yuan Ross, Evan Ross, Michael Ruby; brothers, Sheldon Rose of Bloomfield Hills, Leslie Rose of Florida.
