Family event at Detroit Kid City
appeals to kids and adults.

he Detroit Jewish News and Detroit
Kid City in Southfield hosted a
family fun event July 11 at the new
venue where parents and children can let
their imaginations roam free amid a min-
iature Detroit play city. Kids can run the
show in a factory, bank, barbershop, pizzeria,
school, post office and more.

srael Bonds and Congregation Shaarey Zedek honored Dr.
Leora Bar-Levav and Dr. Gary Edelson on June 24. They
received the New Life Award in recognition of tireless effort and
outstanding leadership in support of the economic strength and
security of the State of Israel and their commitment and dedication
to Congregation Shaarey Zedek. Keynote speaker was Avi Jorisch,
founder of the Red Cell Intelligence Group. New bond sales totaled
$2.2 million.

Jewish Senior Life annual meeting brings good news.

ewish Senior Life held its annual meeting June 19 at
Fleischman Residence/Blumberg plaza. CEO Rochelle
Upfal unveiled plans for renovations to Teitel
Apartments in Oak Park that would convert studio apart-
ments to one-bedrooms through a federal grant. She also
revealed that JSL is working on plans for "the village," a com-
munity that would allow seniors to age in their own homes. A
location is to be determined.
Board member Larry Tisdale of West Bloomfield was
the recipient of the 2012 JSL Award of Excellence and JSL
employee Ruben Colon was awarded the 2012 Michael
Cloonan Employee Excellence Award.
A barbecue in the Fleischman courtyard followed the
meeting.
