Your reporter did not mention that at that meeting, Dawud Walid of CAIR spoke, as did Kellman and Robert Cohen, in favor of the sale, and he said that the buyers were his "constituents." This is the same Dawud Walid who said in a May 25 sermon at Imam El Turk's mosque in Warren, "Who are those who incurred the wrath of Allah. They are the Jews, they are the Jews." See http:// www.investigativeproject.org/3608/ dawud-walid-the-quran-and-jews. Walid, in that sermon, continued to rail against the U.S., Israel and the Jews. The national ADL has noted that El Turk's mosque in Warren was established by the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA), which is the new name of the virulently anti-Semitic Tanzeem- e-Islami Pakistani organization. By the way, that same El Turk was invited to speak at the 9-11 memorial service at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield in spite of concerns by many in our community. The Jewish News should consider hav- ing an investigative reporter address this issue in a balanced way and investigate the evidence contained in the letter to the attorney general, so that the truth be known. After all, this is happening in the heart of the Metro Detroit Jewish com- munity — the IN's targeted audience Irving Ginsberg, Ph.D. Farmington Hills Editor's note: Since June 2011, the IN has published four extensive stories on this issue and will continue to report new developments as they occur. "Courage and Compassion: The Legacy of the Bielski Brothers," details the resistance group operating against the Nazis during the occupation of Poland and Belarus. Their story was made famous in the 2008 movie, Defiance, with Daniel Craig portraying Tuvia Bielski, the group's leader. The exhibit, on display through Nov. 4, begins with life in Belarus, accounts of escape and the formation of prob- ably the most famous partisan detach- ment. Through panels, artifacts and interactive displays, the exhibit shows the courage and commitment of this intrepid band of rebels. Award-winning independent film- maker and television editor Sharon Rennert, who recently made the docu- mentary, In Our Hands: A Personal Story of the Bielski Partisans, will deliver the keynote address at the opening ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15. Rennert is the granddaughter of the famed partisan Tuvia Bielski, who, along with brothers Zus and Asael, refused to succumb to the hopeless circumstances of the Holocaust, took fate into their own hands, and kindled a flame of hope in the hearts of Jews searching for sense and meaning dur- ing one of their darkest times in his- tory.
