How the Applebaums are
training surgeons from around the world.
Behind the innovation, the renowned physicians
and the leading-edge technology at Beaumont are
people like the Applebaums. People who share
our belief that patient safety is as important as
medical progress.
In 2006, the Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Surgical
Learning Center opened. A gift that has allowed
more than 36,000 health care professionals to
advance their medical knowledge at Beaumont.
Through their further generosity, we will be able
to expand the scope of the facility - making it a
state-of-the-art center for hands-on training and
simulation technology.
This new Marcia & Eugene Applebaum Simulation
Learning Institute will enable all levels of learners,
from first year students to experienced surgeons,
to practice the newest, most advanced surgical
procedures.
The advanced simulation technology they will
provide not only helps physicians and nurses hone
their skills in the newest techniques, it also ensures
the highest level of precision and patient safety.
For every surgical team there has to be a "first
time" they perform a new procedure. Thanks to
the philanthropy of the Applebaum family, at
Beaumont these first efforts are done on robots
instead of real patients.
There is no doubt that the surgical learning center
makes surgery safer than ever before. Not just here
in Michigan - but everywhere.
