Evelyn Lipitz and Florence Yorke, res-
idents at the Meer Apartments in West
Bloomfield, were honored as "Golden
Oldies" by the YMCA of Metropolitan
Detroit and the Detroit Rotary Club.
Lipitz serves as the first vice president
on Meer's Resident Council. She also
participates in the Literacy Group,
where she reads to children weekly at
Pleasant Lake Elementary School in
Walled Lake. As Meer's choir director
and play reading chair, Yorke encour-
ages her fellow Meer residents to make
the arts a part of their lives, ensuring
that all of the residents involved in
these activities have an enriching and
fulfilling experience.

Wayne Law
announced that Ilana
Ben-Ze'ev of
Huntington Woods
has been named the
school's assistant dean
of students. Ben-Ze'ev
A has practiced business
Ben-Ze'ev
law more than 29
years, most recently as a senior member
at Bodman PLC in Detroit, working in
the real estate finance and banking
groups. She created a marketing training
series addressing areas of focus for
younger lawyers as well as a program
introducing new and existing attorneys
to their peers, promoting connections
and developing relationships among
members of the firm.

Avital Elyazam, a
junior at Frankel
Jewish Academy,
recently received a
Brandeis Book Award,
given in recognition
of a high school stu-
dent who exhibits all-
around excellence in
both the humanities and science while
being engaged in the community.
Elyazam received a copy of Tuesdays
With Morrie and a letter of personal
congratulations from author Mitch
Albom. She is the daughter of Annette
Elyazam of West Bloomfield.

Kate Miller, 22, of Beverly Hills and
a member of Temple Emanu-El in
Oak Park, won a national teaching
fellowship with a five-year, $175,000
award. She will attend graduate school
at the University of Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia. The Knowles Science
Teaching Fellowship goes to the nation's
premier high school math and science
teachers at the start of their careers.

Local student and budding scientist
Chengzhen Dai, a college-bound
Beverly Hills resident, is one of only 19
American students chosen to attend

the summer science program at the
Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel,
one of the world's foremost centers of
scientific research and graduate study.
Dai attended Detroit Country Day
School in Beverly Hills and has worked
at the University of Michigan Ann
Arbor for the past two years. He par-
ticipated in the 2011 Intel International
Science and Engineering Fair, where he
was awarded second place in the cat-
egory of animal science. He also com-
peted in the 2012 Intel International
Science and Engineering Fair, where he
was awarded fourth place in environ-
mental sciences.

RAVSAK Journal.
Feldman and Kaufman are third-
year Hebrew students taught by Ilana
Gaba-Maine. He is the son of Lori and
Michael Feldman of West Bloomfield.
She is the daughter of Shari and Alon
Kaufman of Orchard Lake.

Jonathan P. Gunsberg of Flint
has completed his master's of sci-
ence degree in nurse anesthesia at
the College of Health Sciences at
Midwestern University in Illinois. He
is the son of Dr. David and Sandra
Gunsberg.

Kapen of West
Bloomfield was elect-
ed president of
Bloomfield Players, a
Bloomfield Hills com-
munity theater. A vet-
eran actor in
Kapen
Bloomfield Players
and former vice president, he works as
a pediatrician with Southfield Pediatric
Physicians.

Malka Littman, a Hebrew teacher
at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills, has won
the Diane and Emery Klein Award for
outstanding teaching.

Every ten years, following the
United States Census results,
new legislative districts are
drawn to reflect population
changes.

West Bloomfield Township
voters will soon receive NEW
Voter Identification Cards
with information about which
precinct you will vote in along
with the address of your polling
location. The card will also
identify your congressional,
state senate, state house,
county commission and school
district.

Watch the mail for your NEW
Voter Identification Card. The
new precincts take effect for
the August 7th, 2012 State
Primary Election.
