As a master teacher in Oak Park for 36 years, he molded the lives of his students and the careers of his colleagues. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel. DOROTHY S. KRIPKE, 89, of Deerfield, Ill., formerly of Jerusalem, Israel, and Birmingham, died June 15, 2012. She grew up in Toledo, Ohio, moved to Miami, Fla., with her family in 1940, married in 1948 and moved to Milwaukee, Wis., and then to Birmingham in 1963. She was an active volunteer in several Jewish organizations and was elected precinct delegate in the late '70s. In 1984, she moved to Ann Arbor and in 1989 to Jerusalem at age 67 after retiring from work at a hospital in Detroit. In Jerusalem, she served as a museum volunteer, read English to the blind, took classes and \vas active in her synagogue and Hadassah. She returned to the U.S. every summer to visit her family and worked at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin until age 75. She traveled in Europe and the Middle East during her 22 years in Israel and returned to live in the U.S. in 2011 due to illness. Mrs. Kripke was the beloved wife of the late Joseph B. Kripke; devoted daugh- ter of the late Max Susman and the late Anna B. Susman; sister of the late Myron Susman. She is survived by her son and daugh- ter-in-law, Ned R. and Karen Kripke of Lafayette Hill, Pa.; daughters, Joan NI. Kripke and partner Malachy E. Gunther of Chicago, Ill., and Elizabeth S. Kripke of Weston, Mass.; loving grandchildren, Joseph and Benjamin; sister, Leah Conn; brother and sister-in-law, Sanford and Betty Susman; brothers-in-law, Rabbi Myer Kripke and Donald Landsman; sis- ter-in-law, Ann Kripke; nephews, nieces, numerous other relatives and friends.
