n her four years in the appraisal
business, Theresa Shimansky, 42,
owner of Farmington Hills-based
Precision Appraisals Inc., has seen
and appraised it all, from one-of-a-
kind industrial and medical machines
to planes, trains, automobiles, kitchen
sinks, and every thing in between —
from Michigan to Hawaii.
With a network of appraisers all
over North America, Shimansky is
able to appraise anything, whether
it be for people applying for loans
or those going through bankrupt-
cies, divorces, foreclosures, insurance
claims or litigation. Because of the
lagging economy, these events are
up significantly, according to latest
statistics.
"Many appraisers are auctioneers','
says Shimansky, who lives in Keego
Harbor. "That's not what I do, and
I have never worked for an auction
house. My background is business
valuation. I provide USPAP (Uniform
Standards of Professional Appraisal
Practice) compliant reports that
adhere to all strict standards."
Precision Appraisals assesses a
lot of restaurant equipment, as well
as dental, veterinary, construction,
manufacturing — including heavy
industrial — automotive repair and
general office equipment.
Shimansky is a native Metro
Detroiter and a graduate of Southfield
Lathrup High School. "I grew up at
Beth Achim where my father was the
cantor from 1981 until the merger
with Adat Shalom in 1998',' she says.
Shimansky finds her job interest-
ing."' joke that I can do any equip-
ment and the kitchen sink — and, yes,
I have done a kitchen sink. In fact, I've
done probably more than 15 kitchen
sinks, mostly part of restaurant equip-
ment appraisals," she says. E
