he Jewish News has served as a companion
through life's journey for many people in
the community, such as Abby Goldfaden of
See
Southfield.
"My engagement in 1996, my wedding in 1997, the
birth of my kids in 1998 and 2000, mother of a bar
mitzvah in January 2011, and next June I'll be the
mother of a bat mitzvah' Goldfaden wrote."I was also
mother of the 2008 JN Chanukah Cover artist, and I also Wawa
won a prize in one of the Oscar Contests a number of
years ago:'
The Jewish News is also there to chronicle the careers
of many professionals and artists, such as Shirley
Benyas of West Bloomfield, who was first featured
as a guest artist singing with the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra in 1950 and was covered through the years
— her last mention in 2009.
For the past 70 years, the Jewish News has been fol-
lowing the life cycles of generations of families from
cradle to grave and celebrating all the successes and
achievements that come in between. It's a rare family .
who hasn't seen one of their own on the pages of the IN.
The JN plans to continue to play that role as well as to
entertain, delight, inform, educate, challenge and, yes,
sometimes even anger, our readers for years to come.
We take our responsibility to chronicle the Metro
Detroit Jewish community seriously, and we take our
readers seriously as well. We're a community — the
