Outdoor Enjoyment

Hillel's Early
Childhood Center experiences family camp.

T

welve families shared a memory-
making weekend that included an
age-appropriate Shabbat morn-
ing service, kid-friendly activities and an
adult team-building session on the ropes
course.
The weekend's theme was all about Dr.
Seuss' The Lorax and tikkun olam; mak-
ing the world a better place. Introductions
began with each family talking about how
they work to make the world just a little
better each day whether they are recycling,
giving to tzedakah or caring for the family
pet.
ECC mom Amy Berman said, "As a fam-
ily, we volunteer regularly at an animal
shelter... it's a great way for the little ones
to learn respect for other living creatures."
Following Saturday's dinner, all 24
children participated in a hands-on "sci-
ence alive" animal show with animals that
are part of the Tamarack Camps Outdoor
Education program.
Havdallah under the stars, led by

Helayne Shaw, was a beautiful way to end
Shabbat. Of course, camp wouldn't be
complete without the bonfire and s'mores.
The weekend was a perfect balance
between family time, adult bonding and
child-centered group programming.
Sunday morning, everyone enjoyed
Pioneer skills with candle-making, brace-
let designs and creative picture frame
decorations.
