FOIL GRILLED
CORN ON THE COB
Easy to assemble ahead, these can be
made in an oven, too — cook at 350
degrees for 30 minutes. Serve with
Seasoned Olive Oil (see below for
recipe). If you'd like, sprinkle a bit of
grated Parmesan or Asiago cheese
over the hot corn.

6-8 ears fresh corn
water
kosher salt

Shuck the corn, and soak in a pan
filled with water for 1 or more hours
(up to 6 hours maximum).
Heat grill to medium-high.
Sprinkle the corn with salt, and wrap
each ear well in aluminum foil. Place

the corn on the grill, and cook for
about 20 minutes, turning once or
twice.
To serve, unwrap, but keep in the
foil. Brush with seasoned olive oil,
and serve some extra on the side if
desired.
Makes 6 or more servings.

Perspective from page 58

fruits and veggies go into a blender,
the vitamin properties degrade. It's like
when we used to hear that margarine
was better for us than using butter, and
then margarine actually turned out to
cause a lot of heart disease.

JN: What can we do to be healthier?

DA: Our system sends us clues if it's
out of balance so go into surveillance
mode and take action.
The first thing I'm an advocate for is
eating minimally processed real food,
as locally based as possible. Eat and go
to sleep at the same times daily.
Spending one hour at the gym and
then sitting at your desk for the rest of
the day is equivalent on a health basis
to smoking a pack of cigarettes. It can
lead to an increased incidence of heart
disease and cancer. Your body needs to
get moving every 20 minutes.
Inflammation is the root of much of
heart disease and cancer. If your feet
hurt after wearing high heels, they're
inflamed. Ditch the heels, and avoid
other sources of inflammation.
Talk with your doctor to develop a
personal health plan. Medical technol-
ogy allows specialists to look at DNA -
code and predict what diseases may
develop.
Bill Weir, the slim, young Nightline
co-anchor, took a series of cutting-edge
tests that he says saved his life. His
heart scan showed a lesion, indicating
early heart disease. He's taking steps
now to prevent it.

JN• Tell us about your early life.

DA: My parents are Dr. Zalman
Agus, a physician at the University of
Pennsylvania, and Sondra Agus, a for-

mer schoolteacher in Cherry Hill, N.J.
I'm the oldest of three brothers. Joel is
a stockbroker, and Michael, the young-
est, heads one of the pediatric intensive
care units at Boston Children's Hospital.
We were raised Conservative
in Baltimore. My family moved to
Philadelphia when I was in school, and
I attended Akiba Academy, the same
Jewish school as [Free Press columnist]
Mitch Albom.

IN: Your wife is actress Amy Povich,

daughter of talk-show host Maury
Povich and stepdaughter to his wife,
TV journalist Connie Chung. Tell us
more about your interesting family.
DA: Amy and I met through a family
blind date, and we've been married 18
years. Our daughter, Sydney, is 14, and
our son, Miles, is 12.
When I'm not working, I predomi-
nately spend time with my family. We
like to be outdoors, playing tennis and
riding horses. We keep kosher at home
and belong to Ikar Synagogue, a pro-
gressive, egalitarian Jewish community.
My late grandfather, Rabbi
Jacob Agus, was rabbi of Beth El
Congregation in Baltimore. He wrote
several books on Jewish history and
philosophy.
My wife's grandfather was Shirley
Povich, sports editor of the Washington
Post for 76 years. He died at age 93, and
