LS of Michigan-Lou Gehrig's
Disease held its fifth annual
Jerry Lash Bootleggers' Bash
presented by RSL Medical Marketing
at the Lafayette Grande Banquet Center
late last month. The joint was jumping
with 200 dames and daddies enjoying
a charity night of fabulous food, hooch,
music, dancing and gambling.
The event was a roaring success,
bringing in close to $40,000 to support
programs and services for people with
ALS and their families in Michigan.
This brings the grand total raised since
the inaugural event in 2007 to almost
$150,000.
"We are deeply grateful to Ryan Lash,
founder of RSL Medical Marketing, and
his family for their generous support of
our Jerry Lash Bootleggers' Bash',' said
Sue Burstein-Kahn, executive director of
ALS of Michigan.
Lash created RSL Medical Marketing
in honor of his father, Jerry Lash, who
lost his courageous fight against ALS in
2008 as well as the thousands of patients
and families who are battling disease
or injury. After experiencing firsthand
the challenges and difficulties that Jerry
faced each and every day living with
ALS, Ryan was determined to lessen
the load on families. He partners with
physicians to offer patients a depend-
able home-delivery service that helps to
ease the burden of disease or injury by
alleviating the extra steps between the
physician's office and home.
This year's event was renamed the
Jerry Lash Bootleggers' Bash in honor of
Jerry's fighting spirit.
ALS, more commonly known as Lou
Gehrig's Disease, affects more than
30,000 people across the United States.
In Michigan alone, more than 1,200
people are currently battling this dis-
ease. ALS attacks the motor neurons in
the brain and spinal cord that control
the ability to move, speak, swallow and
eventually breathe, while the mind stays
fully aware.
ALS of Michigan Inc. is a nonprofit
organization that provides services,
education and support to people with
ALS, their families and caregivers in
Michigan to help them live as fully
as possible. It also supports research
into the cause, treatment and cure for
ALS. F
