Special to the Jewish News

fife's everyday happenings can
often result in the extraor-
dinary. From usual comings
and goings, great ideas can be born.
And, so it was for Audrey and Brian
Klayman, who decided it was an opti-
mal time to leverage their individual
careers as well as their personal life
experience camp shopping for their
three children — and open a neigh-
borhood store that could fill the gap
for trendy camp merchandise and
more.
"Packing the kids for camp can
begin weeks, even months, before
school gets out. It's an exciting time
for the kids, but it can be a challenge
for parents:' Audrey said. "The list is
long, going from store to store is time-
consuming, endlessly searching for
supplies that are both fun and func-
tional ... and we thought, there has to
be a better way"
So, in March 2012, Audrey and
Brian Klayman's great idea opened
for business. Perfect Trading Co., at
the corner of Maple and Lahser roads
in Bloomfield Township, offers on-
trend, carefully selected camping gear;
fashion basics for adults and children;
and custom printed and embroidered
apparel.
"While we merchandised the store
this season keeping camp in mind,
we're seeing a lot of non-campers, too,
looking for athletic and active wear,
casual apparel and custom items for
bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate events or
special birthdays and anniversaries','
Brian said.
Parents with their camp shopping
lists in hand will find such must-haves
as backpacks and dry sacks, pillows
and pajamas, collapsible chairs, col-
orful sheet sets and sleeping bags,
slippers and flip flops, flashlights and

portable fans, BPA-free water bottles,
cargos and shorts, and weatherproof
duffles to carry it all.
There are also sweatshirts, T-shirts
and hoodies, all of which can be cus-
tom printed on-site or personalized at
the store's Bling Bar, a first-of-its-kind
concept in Metro Detroit, where cus-
tomers can hand-decorate with rhine-
stones almost any item in stock.
Perfect Trading Co. sells brands
such as Columbia Sportswear, Teva,
High Sierra, Marmot, Keen, Adidas,
Camelbak, Alternative Apparel and
Nalgene.
Shelves are fully stocked with a
large selection of fashion basics, gift
items that can be personalized and gift
wrapped, and licensed apparel from
Detroit's professional sports teams.

Roots In Retail
The Klaymans, who are residents of
West Bloomfield, have a retail and
wholesale background. Audrey co-
owned a popular children's clothing
boutique in West Bloomfield for more
than a decade and Brian co-owned a
Detroit-based wholesale supplier of
branded active wear. Most recently, the
couple operated Perfect Expressions, a
supplier of custom-printed apparel for
special events. As their business grew,
the couple was encouraged that open-
ing a retail store was the right decision
at this juncture.
"The store is an extension of who
we are ... It's relaxed. It's welcoming,
and we hope it will become a place
for parents and their kids to discover
great items to enhance their camp
experience,' Audrey said. El
