Have You Ever Visited These Places?

Sy Manello

Editorial Assistant

H

orace Greeley was to have
said, "Go West, young man!"
The military is urging people
to join and "See the world!" Many jaded
old-timers insist, "Been there; done
the There are some places that I bet
you have not really considered but have
heard of.
I have been many places, but never in
Cahoots. You can't go alone; you must
be in Cahoots with someone.
Often I find myself in Denial. I just
refuse to accept today's happenings as
reality.
. I've never been in Cognito. I under-
stand that no one can recognize you
there.
I have been described as being in
Tense, but I vehemently deny it.
However, I have been in Sane. There
is no airport there; you have to be driv-
en there; and I have, thanks to friends,
family and work.
Some have observed that I may be
in Culpable, but I fault myself for being

seen there.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but
you have to jump; I am not much into
such physical activity.
I have been accused of being in
Definite; sometimes I am and some-
times I am not.
I have also been in Doubt. It is a sad
place to go, and I try not to be a fre-
quent visitor.
I have never been in Digent; I can't
afford it
Yes, I have been in Flexible; I feel it is
often important to stand firm.
Some have said that I was seen in
Dignant; but I find that I am rarely
offended.
Sometimes I can be in Capable, espe-
cially now that I am getting older.
I have often felt that I would like to
be in Dispensable, but then I took a real
vacation and found that was not so.
A favorite place for me is in
Suspens-e. It gets the adrenalin flowing
and pumps up the old ticker. I really
need such stimulation these days.
I have often felt that I was in Distinct;
then I had my glasses changed.

JN CONTENTS

Many times I like to feel that I am in
Vincible, but life has a way of showing
me I am not.
, And for those of you who think that
in Continent means travel through
Europe, you are all wet!

Our JN Mission

The Jewish News aspires to communicate news and opinion that's useful, engaging, enjoyable and unique. It strives to
reflect the full range of diverse viewpoints while also advocating positions that strengthen Jewish unity and continu-
ity. We desire to create and maintain a challenging, caring, enjoyable work environment that encourages creativity
and innovation. We acknowledge our role as a responsible, responsive member of the community. Being competi-
tive, we must always strive to be the most respected, outstanding Jewish community publication in the nation. Our
rewards are informed, educated readers, very satisfied advertisers, contented employees and profitable growth.

The Power of Recycling

Hebrew Free Loan gives interest-
free loans to members of our
community for a variety of
personal and small business
needs. HFL loans are funded
entirely through community
donations which continually
recycle to others, generating
many times the original value
to help maintain the lives of
local Jews.

As a former president of Federation's
Young Adult Division, David Kramer
was familiar with Hebrew Free Loan,
but a conversation with a current HFL
Board member gave him the desire
to be part of the agency's Board.
"For me, it's about the community,
and giving recognition to the larger
picture," David said. "My grandparents
were Holocaust survivors, and to go
from that situation, to me attending
good schools and my family living in
comfort, puts us in a fantastic position
to make life better for others. I think
Jews have survived because we
take care of each other.
"HFL does something that's unique.
The agency gives directly to those
who need help, and everyone should
know borrowers are paying us back.
HFL's 98 percent repayment rate
means those loans are more to our
borrowers than just cash. People
remember that feeling of support and
relief when HFL helped them, and
they want others to have that feeling,
that sense of community," David said.
"Until I became involved with HFL,
I didn't have a full appreciation for the
emotional impact a dollar can make."
