in the news Yad Ezra Gives Volunteer Award Sarena Paul of Farmington Hills, a volunteer who has given her time, energy, talent and support to Yad Ezra for 16 years, received the organization's Diane and Emery Klein Volunteer Recognition Award at its annual Volunteer/Board Appreciation Dinner May 2. Paul's responsi- bilities range from managing the volunteer sign-in book that allows Yad Ezra to report the number of volun- Serena Paul teers and amount of volunteer hours provided annually (13,000 hours), to clerical tasks to working on the dinner ad journal and at the registration table. The dinner is Yad Ezra's largest fundraiser of the year, covering 40 percent of the organization's annual budget; it also honors the dedication and hard work of approximately 150 regular Yad Ezra volunteers and board mem- bers. Walk For Animals To Aid Shelter Erin Weingarten, a sophomore at Bloomfield Hills Andover High School, organized a walk, "Tails on the Trails;' from 10 a.m.-noon June 3 at the high school. All pro- ceeds will benefit Almost Home Animal Rescue, a no-kill animal shelter in Southfield and West Bloomfield. The minimum entry fee is $10 per human walker. Leashed dogs are welcome but not required. Walk options are for one, two or three miles. Other activities include booths from various spon- sors, raffles, refreshments and an area with animals available for adoption from Almost Home.
