emple Emanu-El will commemo-
rate the past 60 years and cel-
ebrate "the next 60 years of possi-
bilities" May 19 at a Legacy of Leadership
Gala honoring Glenn and Kim Liebowitz.
"We are honoring Glenn and Kim
Liebowitz for their exemplary commit-
ment and extraordinary generosity to our
congregation:' said Judy Greenwald, co-
chair of the Gala.
The Liebowitzes joined the temple
in 1984 and subsequently raised four
daughters, Miranda, Lauren, Danielle and
Karen, in religious school from kinder-
garten through graduation. The couple
participated in and served temple orga-
nizations from the PTO to the board of
trustees. "Kim was Sisterhood president
at the same time that Glenn was temple
president;' Greenwald said.
Glenn was recruited to the board in
1993 and became treasurer in 1994, vice
president in 1995-1997 and president
from 1997-1999. He participated in
Temple's Fund for Life in 1995-98 and
co-chaired the Lech Lecha Endowment
Campaign in 2000-2004 with Elaine C.
Driker and Donald Cohen.
"When Kim and I were a young mar-
ried couple, we were looking for a temple
where we could raise our family, provide
them with a good Jewish education and
get to know other families in our corn-
munity',' Glenn said. "We were invited
to Temple Emanu-FI by Barb and Doug
Kellerman. From the very first interac-
tion, we felt Emanu-El was a 'people insti-
tution:We found temple members and
the clergy to be warm, welcoming and
down-to-earth:'

Kim and Glenn Liebowitz
temple's future, Glenn said it this way:
"While participating in Temple fundrais-
ing, I asked people for money, a lot of
money. Ifs hard when people say no, but
very rewarding when they say yes. While
we were involved in temple fundraising,
my business was taking off. We were able
to contribute in a meaningful way.
"I hope that by example when I say yes,
other people are thinking, 'Well, this guy
is doing it, so maybe I can, too. They say
you don't teach your kids by telling them
— you teach by showing them'.'
Glenn said when he contributes he
remembers his father and his grandfa-
ther.
"Temple Emanu-El has had a signifi-
cant impact on our Oak Park community
during our 60 years on 10 Mile Road':
Klein said. "The only Reform synagogue
in this 'first-ring suburb' of Detroit, we are
a vibrant and active liberal Jewish pres-
ence that serves not only our immediate
neighborhood, but also Jews throughout
Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties.
"We are most fortunate to have had
dedicated and devoted leaders like Glenn
and Kim Liebowitz who have carried us
throughout our first 60 years:
