Franklin, died April
23, 2012.
He was the for-
mer owner of L &
L Concessions in
Troy, a company
co-founded by his
father and other
relatives.
Mr. Lefkowitz is survived by his
wife of 69 years, Ruth Leflcowitz; sons
and daughters-in-law, Steven and
Ursula Lefkowitz of France, Paul and
Janice Lefkowitz of Farmington Hills,
Jay Lefkowitz of Oak Park; daughter,
Carol Lefkowitz of California and
her partner, Ellen Oppenheimer;
grandchildren, Miriam Lefkowitz,
David and Allison Lefkowitz, Annie
Lefkowitz and Ari Sachter-Zeltzer,
Joshua Lefkowitz, Ian Lefkowitz, Zoe
Lefkowitz, Jack Lefkowitz and Ari
Oppenheimer-Lefkowitz; great-grand-
children, Brie and Jason Lefkowitz and
Elana Zeltzer; sisters, Edythe Klein of
Farmington Hills and Ruth Wayne of
Beverly Hills.
He was the dear brother-in-law of
the late Sheldon Klein and the late
Seymour Wayne.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park

EDWIN R. LEWINSON, 82, died on
April 10, 2012, at his home in South
Orange, N.J.
He was the son of Barney and Rose
(Rosengard) Lewinson. Ed was a peace
and justice activist, professor emeritus
of history at Seton Hall University and
a former prisoner of conscience.
Born in Detroit, he earned a Ph.D. in
history from Columbia University. He
taught history at Seton Hall University
for over 30 years, retiring in the 1990s.
He also authored two books: John
Purroy Mitchell: the Boy Mayor of New
York, 1966 and Black Politics in New
York City, 1974.
Blind from birth, Ed fought against
many forms of discrimination. He
worked to increase accessibility for
blind people, and in 1966 was a plain-
tiff in the lawsuit in New York State
that opened jury duty to blind people.
He put into practice his belief that
"Social change only happens if people
organize, unite, and take action?'
Mr. Lewinson is survived by many
colleagues, friends and family, includ-
ing his sister, Virginia Lewinson;
his aunt, Isabel Lieberman; cousins,
Susanne Feldstein, Natalie Nelson,
Leonard and Friedelle Wolson and
Dorothy Pleasant.

of Southfield, died
April 27, 2012.
A military police

of World War II,
Mr. Michalson
Michelson
was a member of
the Jewish War Veterans. A retired
elementary school principal, he was
also a member of B'nai B'rith and the
Radomer Aid Society.
He is survived by his beloved
wife of 66 years, Gloria Michalson;
daughter and son-in-law, Rita and
Robert Lane of Huntington Woods;
son and daughter-in-law, Robert
Michalson and Rhonda Gross of West
Bloomfield; grandchildren, Dr. Steven
and Tina Lane, Kevin and Laura
Lane; great-grandchildren, Zachary,
Natalie and Alexander Lane; nieces
and nephews, Patricia and Vinnie
Euvino, Dr. Debbie Morrison-Dyke
and Dr. Jeff Dyke, and Kim Morrison;
other loving relatives and friends.
Mr. Michalson was the cherished
brother and brother-in-law of the late
Lois and the late Bernie Morrison.
Interment was at Hebrew Memorial
Park Cemetery. Contributions

WILLIAM SCHWARTZ, 102, of
Southfield, died April 20, 2012.
A World War II Army veteran,
he retired as a first lieutenant. Mr.
Schwartz became a residential
builder and was a member of the
Congregation Shomrey Emunah and
the David Horodoker Organization.
He is survived by his beloved
wife of 69 years, Pauline Schwartz;
sons and daughters-in-law, Dr.
Matthew and Nechama Schwartz of
Southfield, Tom and Rachel Schwartz
of Southfield; grandchildren, Margalit
and Yitzchok Gottlieb, Abigail, Asher
Aryeh, Joseph, Aryeh, Benjamin, Aron
Tzvi and Esther Malka Schwartz;
great-grandchildren, Vered, Yaffa and
