Synagogue Chooses Learning Director Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills welcomes Melissa Ser on staff this summer as the synagogue's new direc- tor of congregational learning. She will integrate Adat Shalom's educational programming, spanning the preschool years through religious school, and into teen-age and adult learning. Ser has been work- ing in formal and informal education for 20 years. She has taught all ages, from preschoolers through senior citizens, in classrooms, camp settings, nursing Melissa Ser homes and even on ropes courses. She has spent many summers working in Jewish camping, both overnight and day camps, and developing curricula and programming, including creative endeavors in Jewish literature and the- ater. Gallery Exhibit Is A Can-Do The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit's Janice Charach Gallery will host "Kindness Can Make a Difference a one-of-a-kind exhibit that is both art and an opportunity to help Metro Detroit families in need from May 20-July 20. "Kindness Can Make a Difference" will open at noon Sunday, May 20, and is free and open to the community. It will feature sculptures created by six teams of artists, engineers and set builders who worked with nothing but food items. Each team had two weeks to create its "canstructions." At the conclusion of the exhibit, the food will be donated to local pantries. (The Gallery will continue to accept food donations through the end of the exhibit.) "We wanted to create an exhibit that will both be creative, artistic and ben- eficial to the many families in our area who need help:' said Gallery Director Terri Stearn.
