Sherwood Studios
has plethora of
contemporary choices.

et ready to be dazzled by
the creative displays of
fine furniture, artwork,
lighting, area rugs and accessories at
Sherwood Studios, one of southeast
Michigan's premiere contemporary
furniture store and interior design
studios.
Sherwood Studios' 23,000-square-
foot showroom is on Orchard Lake
Road, just south of West Maple
Road, in West Bloomfield.
"We are one of the few remaining
high-end contemporary furniture
stores that sells primarily goods
made in the United States, Italy and
Norway," said second-generation
owner Mark Morganrath, who has
more than 40 years with the store.
Some of the notable lines available
to Sherwood Studios customers
are sumptuous Gamma Leather, a
manufacturer of contemporary and
modern Italian leather furniture;
Norway's Ekornes Furniture, the
largest manufacturer of high-quality,
comfort recliner chairs and sofas
in Scandinavia; Creative Elegance,
an environmentally responsible
company based in Southern
California, Linrene Furniture
of North Carolina, providing

contemporary upholstery; and
award-winning Planum Furniture
from West Germany.
The store also carries lines by
these manufacturers: Hickory/White
fine all-wood furniture made in the
U.S.; Jaymar Furniture, a Canadian
maker of fine leather upholstered
furniture; and Thayer Coggin of
High Point, N.C., which produces
fine upholstered furniture.
Morganrath says Sherwood
Studios didn't lower its standards
during the challenging economy of
the last few years. It continued to
offer the top manufacturers. One
change, however, is that "we're
working on a much smaller margin
now so that we can pass on the
savings to our customers. They can
buy better goods from us at more
reasonable prices."
Sherwood Studios provides
service anywhere in Michigan and
throughout the United States.
While visitors are always welcome
to see and touch the merchandise
in the neighborhood showroom,
the company website also offers a
convenient virtual store.
The late Ben Morganroth chose
the name "Sherwood" 60 years ago
because his first store was in the
Sherwood Forest neighborhood
of Detroit, on Livernois near West
Outer Drive. Sherwood Studios next
moved to Nine Mile and Coolidge in
Oak Park, then spent 20 years at Tel-
12 Mall in Southfield before settling
into the current Orchard Lake Road
location more than 24 years ago. Ben
passed away in 2001.
Mark Morganroth was co-owner
of Sherwood Studios with Ben for
about 20 years. The son earned a
bachelor of arts degree with a split
major in interior design and business
at Wayne State University. Mark is a
board-certified, professional member
of the American Society of Interior
Designers (ASID), the oldest,
largest and leading professional
organization for interior designers.
"Watch for our grand re-opening
in July," Morganroth said. "Sherwood
Studios is completely renovating
its Ekorness/Stressless Gallery to
become one of the largest selections
of Ekornes/Stressless chairs, sofas
and sectionals in Michigan.
"Sherwood Studios will offer the
lowest prices available on these
products in the United States." 13
