Oldest Americans
Seniors will be feted at annual brunch.

hen invitations were mailed
for the annual Oldest Jewish
Americans Brunch this year,
they were sent to more than a whopping
400 Jewish individuals in our commu-
nity who are 95 years and older; the list
included 23 who are 100 years old and
beyond.
More than 300 honorees and guests
are expected to attend the 11 a.m.,
Friday, May 4, event at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. The theme
is "The Greatest Generation:'
The venue is new because the event
has outgrown the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield, said
Carol Weintraub Fogel, chair of the
Community Education and Outreach
Committee of Jewish Senior Life of
Metropolitan Detroit (JSL). Brunch
chairs are Phyllis Schwartz of
Bloomfield Hills and Hannah Moss of
Huntington Woods.
"Three artists from the Michigan Opera
Theater will entertain us with the music
of Irving Berlin, George Gershwin and
Jerome Kern, along with a few audience
sing-a-longs:' Schwartz said.
Each honoree will receive a letter of
BUFFET.
Friday Night Live!
Husband and wife piano duo, Aebersold and Neivieem,
are master performers of music for t‘'!o pianos and for
one piano, four-hands. They perform music in both
traditions by Schubert, Mozart and Stravinsky.

The Oregon Shadov! Theater presents Thumbeltna,
a puppet performance of Hans Christian Andersen's
famous story, linked to music of the 19605 and 705,

That's when the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit Women's
Department will host its fourth annual
"Stretch to Help" event. It will feature 20
local fitness centers and studios offer-
ing 23 classes.
Offerings will range from mom-
and-tot yoga, slow flow and vinyasa
to barre classes, pilates, family yoga,
spinning, meditation and grocery-
store tours.
Participants must make a mini-
mum $18 pledge to Federation's 2012
Annual Campaign and register in
advance. Participants who already
have made a donation to the 2012
Annual Campaign are not required
to make an additional gift.
"Our goal is to raise women's aware-
ness of the needs of our community:'
says Stretch to Help co-chair Niki Fink,
"while, at the same time creating
energy, excitement and a sense
of larger purpose. The event serves
as a reminder that collectively, we are
stronger!'
Co-chair Denise Parr adds,
"Everyone who participates in this
event has an amazing time, whether
they're doing power yoga, pilates or
something else. It feels great to do
something for yourself while contrib-
uting to such a good cause:'
Federation's 2012 Annual Campaign

agencies to address Jewish needs
in Metro Detroit, in Israel and
around the world.
