Old Woodward Ave. Birmingham, MI 48009 (248) 283-8400 50800 Corporate Drive Shelby Township, MI 48315 (586) 731-4111 n March, the Temple Beth El confirmation class went on an adventure in Washington, D.C., to learn more about our Jewish and our American heritages. The sightseeing was very enlightening and fun, but we also had many good learning experi- ences along the way. We spent time at the National Archives, the Smithsonian Museums, the Capitol and lots of different neigh- borhoods. Our trip was not only a time of joy and learning, but also a time of service and remembrance. The U. S. Holocaust Museum exhibits were extremely touching and impactful. The war memorials were excellent reminders to our generation of the sacrifices of our brave soldiers. And we took special pride in laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery. Also with locations in Gaylord and Traverse City ISRAEL BONDS Our Judaism traveled with us as we visited Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and he briefed us about national issues, but also answered our questions and concerns about Israel's security. And our Judaism was a part of us as we celebrated Shabbat and observed Havdalah on the steps of the Jefferson Memorial. Throughout the trip, our group became much closer through shared experiences. Whether it was trying to find the Jamba Juice that didn't exist, learning to use the Metro or taking pictures at the White House, we all connected on a much deeper level. We look forward to our confirmation in May and having more great experi- ences in the future. ❑ Authors are Temple Beth El students Chris Beider of West Bloomfield, Austin Glass of Huntington Woods, Carly Taub of Birmingham and Margot Alpert of Grosse Pointe Farms.
