A Second Career
Jay was 62 years old when he began
working for his son, Barry, who
owns Southfield-based Action Video,
a company that produces legal vid-
eos. Jay became the videographer,
videotaping depositions and then
presenting them to the jurors in the
courtroom.
"The judges and the attorneys
loved my dad," said Barry. "My dad
once had an attorney tell him that
he was glad when my dad was in the
courtroom because he always made
him feel calmer during an intense
trial."
Once Jay hit 84, the heavy video
equipment became hard for him to
lift. He and Barry brainstormed and
came up with the idea of shredding
legal files as another service Action
Video could provide.
"My dad is now in charge of

shredding attorneys' files that need
to be destroyed for confidentiality
reasons. It basically comes down to
people trusting my dad because it is
really all about protecting people's
identities. We now call my dad, Jay
the 'Shredder, and at almost 90 years
of age he has started a new career!"
Jay works five days a week from 10
a.m.-5 p.m. "Quite often I come in
on Saturdays while my wife is at the
beauty parlor," said Jay.
For their 45th wedding anniver-
sary, Jay and Marion renewed their
vows at Temple Beth El. "We had a
proper wedding this time with a limo
and a sit-down dinner:' said Marion.
"Everyone should renew their vows
because you hear the words differ-
ently after you have been together for
so many years like Jay and I have ...
they are more meaningful:'
The pair still do everything
together. "Jay always told me, 'I never
want to be away from you He's a
loving and devoted man and I just
want to keep him forever:' Marion
said. 0
