Family Togetherness

T

Aish in the Woods families enjoy a Shabbaton at camp in Ortonville.

wenty families participated in the Aish in the Woods family camp experience
March 16-18 at the Butzel Conference Center in Ortonville. The event was in
partnership with Tamarack Camps.
While the children played, the adults learned in sessions taught by Aish Rabbi
Simcha Tolwin. A special guest speaker was Lori Palatnik, founding director of the

Jewish Women's Renaissance Project, which has taken more than 1,000 women,
including some from Metro Detroit, to Israel on a learn-and-tour program.
Other activities included arts and crafts, Shabbat and Havdalah services. A roaring
bonfire provided the perfect end to Shabbat.

The families made their own candles by dipping wicks in wax.

Happy Holiday

Akiva students visit

senior facilities around

the Jewish holidays

to bring cheer.

E

arlier this month, students
from Akiva Hebrew Day School
visited JVS' Brown Adult Day
Care Center in West Bloomfield to put
on a program and help seniors cel-
ebrate Purim.
Students from the school do this
type of volunteering four times a year
around the holidays, visiting seniors at
non-Jewish facilities under the auspices
of Jewish Senior Life.
Junior Hannah Korelitz says the pro-
gram director at Regent Street raved
about the recent Purim visit by Akiva
students. "She said we had great energy
and made sure to interact personally
with each of the residents, who loved
the kids. I was just so proud to be an
Akiva student." 0
