Campus Environment
Hostile Toward Israel
I have to disagree with the portrayal of
Wayne State University as "not hostile"
toward Israel, and by extension, toward
Jewish students ("Controversy On
Campus:' March 15, page 14).
As a Wayne law student and vice
president of the campus Jewish Law
Student Association, I have seen a
growing anti-Israel sentiment that is
highly antagonistic and hostile without
provocation.
That is to say not only a growing
number of anti-Zionist programming,
but also programming that specifically
calls out "Zionists" as Islamophobes
and Israelis as aggressors.
These events are organized by a
number of student groups on campus
that have faculty sponsors, and many
often involve faculty speakers.
I think it is time for the Michigan
Jewish community, which pours its
hard-earned money into this campus
community (if you don't believe me
walk the campus and you will see
the number of buildings with Jewish
names paid for by Jewish donors
is inspiring), to take notice of the
environment and consider whether
there aren't better things to be done
with this money that would support
students who stand with Israel and
not students who publicly call for its
destruction.

Campus Leaders Praised
For Pro-Israel Advocacy
I just want to express my gratitude
for the Jewish News' coverage of the
sobering situation of anti-Israel pro-
paganda on our college campuses
("Controversy On Campus," March 15,
page 14).
I appreciate the Jewish News' willing-
ness to cover this controversial situa-
tion.
The silver lining to this cloud is our
next generation
those of our kids
who are stepping up to the plate, learn-
ing the facts so that they can engage in
of pro-Israel advocacy.
I congratulate and admire Max
Heller (University of Michigan),
Danielle Brickner (Michigan State
University) and Karen Zeitlin (Wayne
State University) for their courage •
and dedication to do the right thing.
Their parents deserve to be feel-
ing much nachas (pride) for their
children's commitment to Israel, the
Jewish people and to the United States
of America!

Jewish Students Must
Combat Anti-Zionism
Even though Jewish and pro-Israel
speakers are being attacked and
harassed during their university pre-
sentations, there still is a refusal on the
part of the Jewish community to recog-
nize these attacks for what they are.
As we will read soon during our
Passover seders, "in every generation,
they rise to destroy us." This time
around, they try to hide their intent
behind "anti-Zionism."
Too many of us buy that dishonesty
without asking why the only country
on Earth that faces the wrath of these
people is the only Jewish majority
nation on Earth, especially when there
are real human rights abuses that are
being ignored by these same self-
styled human rights activists.
In a one-sided effort in civility, local
campus Hillel leaders call the harass-
ers and disruptors "peaceful, civil and
respectful?' If the demonstrators were
truly respectful, they would engage in
debate, not in disruption. They would
offer facts and logical arguments, not
disparaging and dishonest slogans and
sound bites based on updated anti-
Semitic canards. If they were peaceful
and civil, they would allow the pro-
Israel speakers to speak and then ask
tough questions during the Q & A.
If the facts were on their side, it would
be no problem for them to do this. But
like those who rose up against us in past
generations, there can be no debate. There
can only be disruptions, demonstrations
and demonization. Ifs part of the age-old
pattern of suppressing the Jews.
At University of California-Irvine,
the Muslim Student Union sponsored
a speech by Imam Amir Abdul Malik
Ali, an open Hamas and Hezbollah
supporter who called Jews, "the new
Nazis?' How long will it be before we're
treated to that kind of "peaceful, civil,
and respectful" rhetoric at Michigan
college campuses — or worse?
Parents who are footing the bill that
keep these universities solvent need to
step up and hold administrators' feet
to the fire. Why are disruptions against
Jewish speakers tolerated? Would these
disruptions be acceptable against any
other minority group on campus? The
nicer we are, the more we are looked
on as punching bags.
Other suggestions to combat the
haters: Attend these programs. Arrive
early. Don't leave room for the disrupt-
ers to gather. Attend anti-Israel pro-
grams and ask questions to expose the
speakers' hypocrisy.
Arm yourself with the facts and
teach them diligently unto your
children. Subscribe to websites like,
CAMERA, MEMRI, Palestinian Media

Watch, Honest Reporting, Myths and
Facts, and Stand With Us.
Ignorance is inexcusable and so is
allowing the Jew-haters to create the
world that they want our children to live
and be marginalized in.

Killing Of Jewish Children
Justified By Israel's Foes
The murder of Jewish children and their
father last week in Toulouse, France, has
been justified by both the Al Qaida mur-
derer Mohamed Merah and European
Union High Commissioner Catherine
Ashton. Both suggested Israel's killing of
Palestinian children, which is factually
wrong, justifies Merah's heinous crime.
The murderer even stopped his
moped to go to the blond girl standing
at the bus station and shoot her in the
head, execution style. And "Baroness
Ashton" justified it by comparing it to
Gaza children who died being innocent
bystanders or human shields for Hamas.
Yes, she denied that she meant that, but
it is too little and too late.
Israel never targeted Palestinian chil-
dren. Palestinians did.
Recently, the Fogel family was slaugh-
tered by later-convicted Palestinians who
left a knife in the heart of a 3-month-old
baby. The Hatuel family were executed
in 2004 by Gaza terrorists. The preg-
nant mother and four of her daughters
were shot in the head at close range; the
youngest was 2 years old.
Yellow Israeli schoolbuses, kindergar-
tens and schools were targeted by missiles
from Gaza. In the first and second inti-
fadas, 144 Jewish children were killed in
buses, in pizza parlors and in the streets.
The break in morality occurred twice:
First, when there is general approval
of Palestinians of the most heinous
crimes by criminals who have no mercy.
They named a major square in West
Bank Ramallah as "Martyrs Square" to
commemorate killers of Jewish children.
Second, beyond the West Bank, in the
parallels that High Commissioner Ashton
finds between Gaza children who died in
a war zone to deliberate targeted killing
of Jewish children. From now on, any
atrocity against the Jews, any anti-Semit-
ic expression, will be similarly justified
by "Israel occupation" or "Israel's killing
of Palestinian children."
And with Iranian President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad talking about genocide
of the Jews openly and frequently, High
Commissioner Ashton is a deaf mute
when Jewish children are killed.
Palestinization of anti-Semitism takes
a new phase in the struggles of Jews for
survival.

f I can't afford

Yes, IRS and the State
assess failure-to-file
penalties that can
add up to 25% of the
unpaid tax. If you don't file
your returns, they may file
your return for you at a sig-
