On Friday evening, Gampel will speak about Jews, Christians, Muslims and the Holy City of Jerusalem. The following after- noon his subject is "Sex, Food & the Lush Benjamin Garden: Religious Piety Gampel Confronts Sensual Pleasure:' Gampel holds the Dina and Eli Field Family Chair in Jewish History at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York and teaches courses in medieval and early modern Jewish history. Friday evening programming will begin at 6 p.m. with a Shabbat acoustic service for families of all ages. Hazzan Daniel Gross will lead the service, along with Marty Liebman, Rabbi Aaron Bergman and Dan Shere. A Shabbat buffet by Matt Prentice will begin at 7:15 p.m. followed by the presen- tation by Gampel. Childcare will start at 7:15 p.m. and extend until the end of the adult pro- gram. At 8 p.m., children will enjoy an "Animal Magic" demonstration by Mark Rosenthal. Traditional services will begin at 9 a.m. on Shabbat morning. At 10 a.m., those interested are invited to a yoga session with Rabbi Shere and Yogi Shawn Broida. Ruth Bergman, community educator, will lead a 10 a.m. Shabbat Torah Study on "Why is this Shabbat different from any other Shabbat?" After Kiddush, Gampel will give his second presentation. He will also address sixth-graders and their parents on Sunday morning. Chairing this year's SYNergy program- ming is Karen Kahn of West Bloomfield. Israeli Hit TV Show Comes To Film Fest The first three episodes of the new season of the Israeli TV series Srugim will be screened at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. On March 19, the first two episodes will be shown, with an introduction by Janice S. Goldfein, a psychotherapist in Farmington Hills. On March 20, the third episode will be shown, with a live guest appearance by series creator-director Eliezer "Laizy" Shapiro. He will talk about the creation and impact of the series.
