Bingo from page C28

Tessa Weinstein of Bloomfield Township

and her best friend, Savonna Adell of
Bloomfield Hills

discovered My Girly Party while leafing
through Metro Parent magazine in search
of party ideas. She couldn't believe she'd
been driving right by it for two years and
never noticed it.
"I had a nice time watching them," says
Meredith. "It was easy because I didn't
have to clean up. I had them take care of
everything except the goody bags."
Tatton says it's not unusual for parents
of the young guests to stick around and
shmooze with each other in the spacious
Party Studio while their daughters are
treated to a good time.
At Emilie's party, most parents dropped
off their daughters but returned early to
watch the girls put on a fashion show.
About 75 percent of their parties are
held in the studio, says Tatton, and the
rest at clients' homes or other locations
like fitness centers or restaurants. And
while the average party girl's age is 3-11,
My Girly Party has hosted its share of
Sweet 16s and even a bat mitzvah party
since the studio is "girly but not childish,"
says Tatton.
If you're looking for a change from the
usual play date at home, My Girly Party
also hosts 45-minute Girly Playdates for
up to four girls at a time, replete with
costumes and accessories, nail polish and
makeup application, fashion show and
runway, music, games and girly tattoos.
Five-year-old Tessa Weinstein of
Bloomfield Township recently enjoyed such
a play date with her best friend, a treat
from her father, Scott Weinstein. Mom
Alison Weinstein took the girls to the play
date, where, she says, they dressed up,
had a little dance party, drank tea, ate
cookies, learned about etiquette and also
got their nails and makeup done.
"It was enjoyable to watch them with
smiles on their faces," she says.

late who were ribbed all the rest of
the evening. Yes, we would go back."
Before the games started on
Trixie's night, she warned against
"premature bingolation" — telling
winners to hold off on their jubila-
tion until their card's letter-number
combination was verified. After Trixie
proclaimed, "It's a good bingo,"
the crowd good-naturedly joined
in singing the "B-I-N-G-0" song.
Winners went to Trixie's table to
collect prizes: a T-shirt and coffee
mug adorned with clever and non-PC
phrases, selected by her to match
that particular person. As Trixie read
them, most everyone was hooting.
Beth Sills of Bloomfield Township,
who pronounced Trixie "hysterical,"
was among 11 women who showed
up to honor the memory of their
friend Ellen "Sissy" Peoples. She
died in December. Peoples had
wanted to go to Drag Queen Bingo if
she survived her cancer treatment,
so now her pals were living her
dream.
The bingo evenings also include
a 50/50 drawing, where one patron
can win a nice amount of cash.
Five15 typically donates profits to
Equality for a Cause, a nonprofit
organization that disperses funds
raised for the betterment of LGBT
persons. On this night, in honor of
Peoples, who had a special needs
child, the proceeds were designated
for Special Olympics.
"It's my first time here, and it's
really fun," said Sills with a large
smile. "I love the energy. You look
around, and everyone's laughing and
feeling upbeat."
With the growing popularity of
Drag Queen Bingo, Baglio said the
store will be remodeled soon to add
more tables and a much-needed
second bathroom. But the partners
aren't planning to get a larger loca-
tion.
"It's more fun for everyone having
the intimate space," said Baglio. Li
