MSU Film Series
Spotlights Israel
Michigan State University Jewish
Studies Program's Seventh Annual
Israeli Film Festival is an educational,
social and cultural event, and one of
Jewish Studies' largest outreach events.
The festival will be held from
Sunday, March 25, to Monday, March
26. Four films will be screened, all with
English subtitles. A Middle Eastern
dinner for purchase will be available
on March 25.
The opening film, Precious Life, is a
documentary about a Palestinian baby
born without an immune system. He
will die without a bone marrow trans-
plant in an Israeli hospital. Although
only about 1.2 million of the world's
400 million ethnic Arabs live in Israel,
the sole registry for Arab bone marrow
donors is in Jerusalem at Hadassah-
Hebrew University Medical Center. The
type of goodwill and bridge-building
portrayed in this film are important
building blocks toward peace.
On March 26, acclaimed Israeli
director-producer Prof. Yael Katzir
will present her new film, Violins in
Wartime, about music, classical art and
perseverance. Katzir will teach a short
course about Israeli documentary film-
making at MSU in March.
Screenings are free and open to the
public. For more information and a
complete listing of the films, go to
www.bitly/wIPXtF.
