wedding gowns to help provide
programs, support and education to
those affected by breast cancer. An
explanation on their website shows
that wedding dresses can be laun-
dered or dry cleaned and steamed
so they can be sold and reworn.
Lindsey had a simple reason for
agreeing to frolic on the beach in
her treasured wedding dress. "I
chose to do this because I've heard
too many women say they preserved
their dresses and saved them for
a child or grandchild who didn't
want to wear them. Styles change,"
she said. "I thought I would have
one time in my entire life to wear my
wedding gown — and I got to wear it
again. I was so happy it fit me. Right
now it's in my closet; it probably still
has twigs hanging from it."
Lindsey added, "Sam agreed to
the photos because he told me, 'You
don't want to mess with a girl in her
wedding dress so if she wants to do
it, then OK, let's do it:"
Sam admits he'd never heard of
the concept until Goldenberg sug-
gested it. "I'm not sure a lot of guys
would be too excited, but the idea of
being in a relaxed atmosphere, with
sand, trees and a lake did sound
fun," he said.
"We had a great time with Murray
throughout the wedding process,
and 'trash the dress' was a great
way to cap it all off," said Sam, who
works for the e-commerce company
Sharper Image in Farmington Hills.
Goldenberg is hoping to do more
"trash the dress" photo sessions. "It's
really not so much about the dress
as it is for both the bride and groom
— and the photographer — to step
out of the box," he said.
Sam agreed to have the pictures
taken shortly after their wedding
because, he said, "I had just been told a thousand times that 'happy
wife equals happy life,' and I didn't want to screw that up just a couple
weeks into our marriage!"
Thinking back on the photo shoot, he's glad they went for it. "We
have some fantastic pictures — and a great memory, too," Sam said.
