USDA CHOICE BEEF

roll one piece of the dough into a
sheet, about Vs-inch thick. Use a
cookie cutter (or any round cutter
— a jar lid, a glass, etc.) to cut circles
from the dough (the bigger the circle,
the larger the hamantashen).
Place about 1 tsp. (or more) of
your favorite filling in the center of
the circle (more for a large circle, less
for a smaller one). Dip your finger in
water, and run it around the edge of
the circle before folding.
Fold the three sides of the circle
over the filling in a triangle — do
not pinch the triangle around the fill-
ing; if you do, the corners may open
up — leaving a tiny center of the
hamantashen filling exposed (Note:
The "corners" of the hamantashen
will overlap.)
Arrange the hamantashen on the
prepared baking sheet. Brush with
the egg wash, and bake for 15-20
minutes until the pastry is golden.
Remove from oven, and cool com-
pletely.
Makes 3-4 dozen hamantashen,
depending on size.

who has played a number of Jewish
characters, including roles in 1001
(a retelling of Scheherazade) and
Herschel and the Hannukah Goblins,
loves running and baseball.
He has a chance to enjoy his pas-
sion for both after moving back to
New York last year.
OK, maybe he could have mastered
the running thing in Minneapolis.

But, he says, "I'm a rabid New York
Yankees fan, which makes me terribly
unpopular in most parts of the coun-
try." Now, though, he's spending time
with other Yankee fans so all's well
that ends well.
