Shaare Zedek Hospital Dinner
Focuses On Coexistence

srael Dream Mission

An event promoting peaceful coexis-
tence between Palestinians and Israelis is
unusual in today's political climate, but
that is exactly what happened on Feb. 25 in
Dearborn.
A fundraising dinner at the Henry Hotel
saw Arab Americans and Jewish Americans
come together to support Shaare Zedek
Medical Center in Jerusalem. Last year, the
same group of Arab and Jewish supporters
helped fund genetic research at the hospital
while this year, they directed their aid to
Shaare Zedek's cardiac department.
At the dinner, Jerusalem Peace Awards
were given to Bloomfield Hills attorney
Steven Cole and Dr. Shukri David, chief
of cardiology at Providence Hospital in
Southfield.
Dr. David noted that Shaare Zedek
Hospital cares for Muslim, Christian and
Jews alike and, as such, may serve to bridge
differences and promote coexistence.
Messages and a video shown from Shaare
Zedek Hospital supported Dr. David.
In addition, an International
Humanitarian Award was given to the
keynote speaker, former U.S. Sen. Spencer
Abraham, R-Mich.
The 300 supporters, predominantly
Arabs and Jews, enjoyed the hospitality led
by Channel 7 Action News health reporter
Carolyn Clifford.
Upon departure, participants were given
drawings made by children in the surgical
department signed in Hebrew and Arabic.
