JEWISH NEWS-A.Z.A. CIGARETTE FUND
PROVIDES FOR ADDITIONAL SHIPMENTS
October 1, 1943
In order that cigarettes may reach servicemen on time for Hanukkah and
Christmas, The Jewish News this week will make four more shipments, with funds
contributed from our readers to The Jewish News and A.Z.A. overseas cigarette fund.
Acknowledging a remittance made two weeks ago, G.C. Dawson of the export
department of the Phillip Morris Co., wrote The Jewish News last week as follows:
"Your order has been entered for prompt shipment and the cigarettes will be
consigned to the Special Service Officer at the nearest Port of Embarkation, for
trans-shipment overseas via Army transport facilities. Your very generous gift will
bring delight and contentment to the boys of the Armed Forces located in far off
places all over the world and will be deeply appreciated by the recipients on arrival."
JUDEA REVIVED!
THE HOUR — 5:30 P.M (EST) NOVEMBER 29, 1947
December 5, 1947
EDITOR'S NOTE: Authoritative leaders of Palestinian Jewry have expressed the
opinion that the new Jewish state to be set up in a partitioned Palestine will again
assume the Biblical name of JUDEA, which was the name of the Jewish state after
the ten tribes had separated from it and formed the kingdom of Israel. It will make
the re-establishment of the Jewish state after a lapse of 1877 years.
JFK'S MEMORY BLESSED IN
TRIBUTES BY WORLD JEWRY
November 29, 1963
Detroit Jewry joined with all elements of the population and with other faiths here
and throughout the nation in paying tribute to the memory of John Fitzgerald
Kennedy, assassinated President of the United States.
Religious services in tribute to the deceased President were held in nearly all
of Detroit's synagogues...The numerous special services commenced with the
memorial service that was conducted in Shaarey Zedek on Saturday morning, and
the tribute to President Kennedy at the services at Temple Beth El and the other
Reform congregations on Sabbath Eve... There were more than 1,800 at Adas
Shalom and more than 1,100 at the Shaarey Zedek service. Beth Moses and the
other synagogues were filled to capacity... The kaddish was recited and the El Molei
Rachamim was chanted in several of the synagogues.
The Detroit Jewish News Foundation's goal is is to digitize every issue of
the Jewish News, dating to March 27, 1942, and make them available and
searchable to the public. The Foundation will also support and sponsor
forums, town hall meetings and other educational events to best utilize
and share this historical community resource.
