Bright young leader sees NEXTGen Detroit
as the wave of the future.

ll it took was two days.
Miryam Rosenzweig
was not looking for
a job. She loved working for
World ORT and all the world
travel it entailed; she loved
working with and learning
from her boss; and she loved
living in New York.
But she found herself in
Detroit for a job interview
anyway. She reasoned it would

allow her to visit her brothers
and her nieces and nephews here. Nothing more.
For two days, she met with lay leaders and Jewish professionals —
young and well-established — associated with the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit, talking about the community, its history of
generous giving and specifically about its current focus on engaging
young adults ages 21-45.
On Sunday morning, sitting for bagels and coffee with Federation
CEO Scott Kaufman and Federation board officer Robb Lippitt before
her flight, came a moment of reckoning.
"Are you in?" they asked before she could shmear her bagel.
She was.
Rosenzweig, 35, started the first week of October 2011 as
Federation's director of NEXTGen Detroit, a new division of the cam-
paign department that serves as an umbrella for CommunityNEXT,
the Young Adult Division and Community Birthright. NEXTGen
Detroit will officially be launched March 10 at its EPIC Event in
