New Websites Offer Israeli. News

or those interested in news of
Israel, two new Israel-based
English language websites —
the Times of Israel and Israel Hayom
(Israel Today) — have launched. They
cover Israel, the Middle East, and Jewish
communities and interests around the
world.
The Times of Israel, with the tagline
"fair, fresh and fast': is a web-only
resource edited by David Horovitz,
former editor-in-chief of the English-
language Jerusalem Post and editor of
The Jerusalem Report news magazine.
The London-born Horovitz, 49, made
aliyah in 1983 and is a well-regarded
journalist, author and speaker.
The extensive site went online earlier
this month, and Horovitz wrote in his
first blogpost that "the Times of Israel
represents a determined effort by a
team of skilled, committed journal-
ists to report Israel, the region and the
Jewish world accurately and engagingly.
"The Times of Israel will also show-
case a richer, livelier mix of content
than the traditional default focus on the
politi, medini, bit'honi (politics, diplo-
macy and security). Obviously, often
those issues must dominate our head-
lines. But often, indeed always, there are
extraordinary stories to be told from
other spheres — of the people, the
brainpower, the culture and lifestyle of
this land. And we'll tell them — high on
the site, too, not relegated deep in inside
pages."

The site encourages readers to submit
articles and establish blogs on its site.
While encouraging the posting of online
comments to stories, it has adopted
an increasingly popular approach to
posting online comments by requiring
a Facebook sign-in in the hopes that
eliminating anonymity will promote
responsible interchanges.
The site also will carry daily reviews
of the Hebrew and Arab media.
Late last year, Israel Hayom launched
an English-language website for Israel's
highest-circulation newspaper, attract-
ing about 35 percent of the country's
market share.
The Hebrew-language tabloid first
appeared in July 2007 and covers news,
politics, and arts and lifestyle. Its
online statement says, "Israel Hayom
was founded in the belief that the
Israeli public deserves better, more bal-
anced and more accurate journalism.
Journalism which speaks — not shouts.
Journalism of a different kind. And free
of charge."
The paper is financed by Las Vegas
business and casino magnate Sheldon

Adelson, a supporter of causes and
candidates on the political right in both
the United States and Israel. Adelson
and his wife, Miriam, have donated
$10 million to the Republican presi-
dential campaign of Newt Gingrich,
citing his position on Israel. Adelson is
also a major supporter of Israeli Prime
Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and
many analysts claim the paper tailors its
reporting and content to support him.
While Israel Hayom touts its qualities
of trustworthiness, transparency, full
disclosure, openness and fairness, its
tagline, "This is where we stand:' doesn't
hide that it has a guiding ideology
beyond journalism. Part of its online
"vision" reads: "We at Israel Hayom are
committed to acting in a spirit which
represents our Israeliness, the Zionism
and the ideals upon which the State
of Israel was founded and built. We
promise that we will not commit the
sins of discrimination, favoritism or
condescension toward specific groups
in Israeli society. Israel Hayom strives
to become the 'beautiful Israeli' among
local media."

Other Israeli newspapers with English-language websites are the right-
center The Jerusalem Post (www.jpost.com ), the left-wing Haaretz
(www.haaretz.com ) and the former largest-circulation newspaper,
the centrist Yediot Ahranot (www.ynetnews.com ). Another site, www.
israelnationalnews.com , is run by the decidedly right-wing Israeli radio
station, Arutz Sheva, seen as the voice of the settler movement.

I am meeting with a number of clients who are
in the business of acquiring, renovating and
renting out single family homes. I find them
to be hardworking and totally in tune with the
current financial opportunities available in the
residential real estate market. I also see many
clients who are dabbling in the rental real estate
market because they see opportunities to acquire
underpriced real estate that generates cash flow
which easily covers their operating expenses and
debt service and also provides a profit. Even
in this harsh economic environment, many of
these people have found
a successful formula and
are thriving.

Typically, these clients
have not previously
engaged in any asset
protection planning. They
are now coming to see
me because they know
Howard B. Young
that without the proper
structure, one catastrophic fire resulting in severe
personal injuries can wipe them out and cause
them to lose everything they own, including their
assets that are unrelated to the rental properties.
Their fears are very real. They recognize the
benefit of being able to protect their personal
assets against the risks associated with their
rental operations, as well as protect the rental
properties themselves against their external
creditors.

One very effective way to achieve their goals is
to utilize limited liability companies as part of
an overall asset protection plan. As with all asset
protection planning, there are many nuances
involved that relate to such planning techniques,
but the real key is a thoughtful approach that
considers each individual's unique situation and
creates a structure that best accomplishes the
client's goals and objectives.

If you feel you might benefit from consulting
with an estate and asset protection planning
attorney, please give me a call or email me at
