A SEPARATION a film by ASGHAR FARHADI Cafe Europa participants enjoy the talents of local cantors. A special Cantorial Concert Cafe Europa was held Jan. 23 at the Jewish Community Center in Oak Park, sponsored by the Program for Holocaust Survivors and Families of Jewish Senior Life and the Jewish Community Center. The featured cantors were Earl Berris of Congregation B'nai Moshe in West Bloomfield, Rachel Gottlieb Kalmowitz of Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township, Daniel Gross of Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills, Pamela Schiffer of Congregation Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing and Darcie Sharlein of Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park. Pianist Cliff Monear accompanied them. The cantors, members of the Michigan Board of Cantors, sang a variety of traditional Jewish melodies as well as a selection of classic Broadway music. The cantors showed some of their other talents by also playing the violin and guitar to an audience of Holocaust survivors from our area and some family members. The survivors loved listening to the beautiful music performed. This was the second annual cantorial concert for the local survi- vor community. Cafe Europa is a monthly musical celebration held each month, varying at the Jewish community campuses in Oak Park and West Bloomfield.
