A

special Cantorial Concert Cafe Europa was held Jan.
23 at the Jewish Community Center in Oak Park,
sponsored by the Program for Holocaust Survivors
and Families of Jewish Senior Life and the Jewish Community
Center.
The featured cantors were Earl Berris of Congregation B'nai
Moshe in West Bloomfield, Rachel Gottlieb Kalmowitz of Temple
Beth El in Bloomfield Township, Daniel Gross of Adat Shalom
Synagogue in Farmington Hills, Pamela Schiffer of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in East Lansing and Darcie Sharlein of Temple
Emanu-El in Oak Park. Pianist Cliff Monear accompanied them.
The cantors, members of the Michigan Board of Cantors, sang
a variety of traditional Jewish melodies as well as a selection of
classic Broadway music. The cantors showed some of their other
talents by also playing the violin and guitar to an audience of
Holocaust survivors from our area and some family members.
The survivors loved listening to the beautiful music performed.
This was the second annual cantorial concert for the local survi-
vor community.
Cafe Europa is a monthly musical celebration held each
month, varying at the Jewish community campuses in Oak Park
and West Bloomfield. El
