e're nearly four weeks into
2012 and, if you're like
most people with good
intentions but not so much will power,
your resolution to eat healthier in the
New Year was broken weeks ago.
It's not too late to try again.
"What's most important is to have
a plan in advance,' says Michelle
Kobernick, founder of Gourmet
Everyday Delivery in Huntington
Woods, an all-natural, portion-con-
trolled food delivery service, who calls
herself a "personal trainer for healthy
eating."
Kobernick, a former physical educa-
tion teacher and personal trainer, got
interested in how food travels from the
farm to the fork.
She opened her business deter-
mined to help those who lack the
knowledge, the time or the skills to
cook healthy meals.
If working out also was one of your
resolutions, you could "undo one hour
of hard work in two minutes at the
drive-through:' Kobernick says.
Eating healthier is more than just
skipping fast food; it's learning what
kinds of foods to buy, how to prepare
them, how much you should eat and
when. It can be complicated and con-
fusing.
That's where Kobernick comes
in. Gourmet Everyday creates high-
quality, healthy — and tasty —
meals daily in its state-of-the-art
commercial kitchen for delivery to

Michelle Kobernick

clients' homes.
"It takes from 21 to 66 days to form
a habit',' she says. "Clients who use my
service have the opportunity to learn
about healthy food choices and por-
tion control before they try it on their
own."
If you're not ready to commit to a
service such as Gourmet Everyday,
Kobernick offers some sound advice
for everyone to follow when it comes
to making healthy food choices.
"Know where your food comes from:'
she says. "Picture the food growing in
nature, like fruits or vegetables, which
will protect you from yo-yo blood
sugar."
She advices to keep away from pro-
cessed foods and increase your exer-
cise to shed pounds. Keep in mind that
to lose one pound, you have to elimi-
nate 3,500 calories from your diet.
"Even small changes make a differ-
ence over time,' Kobernick says. E
