Welcome Back
More and more young Jewish professionals who left Detroit
to start their careers are coming back home, such as !liana
Brooke Hearshen, 29. Currently, she lives in Farmington
Hills with her dog Stevie, a 2-year-old Labrador retriever
and American pit bull mix. Her family belongs to Temple
Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield, where she is starting to get
involved with their young adult group. She also was very
involved with the Jewish Federation in Tucson, Ariz., and is
starting to get involved with Federation here in Detroit.
WHEN DID YOU LEAVE METRO DETROIT?
ILLANA: I left in August 2006 to pursue a master's degree
at the University of Arizona (Mel and Enid Zuckerman College
of Public Health) in Tucson. I earned a master's of public
health with a focus in public health policy and management.
After I completed my graduate education in 2008, I was
offered a position at Providence Service Corporation in
Tucson, a large children's mental health organization, as a
quality management analyst. I went on to work there for
nearly three years before returning to Detroit.
