Jewish Business Ethics Course Available The Bais Chabad Torah Center is offering a six-week course in Jewish Business Ethics. The series will pres- ent Judaism's approach to practical economic dilemmas and monetary quandaries faced daily. Guest speakers include the Hon. Avern Cohn, the Hon. Edward Sosnick, the Hon. Mark Goldsmith, attorneys Sam Bernstein and Don Scharg, and Neil Schloss, vice president and trea- surer of Ford Motor Co. Rabbi Shneur Silberberg will teach the course after each guest speaker's presentation. The six topics to be discussed are: Hot Tips: The Ethics of Insider Trading; By the Sweat of Their Brows: Wages of the Working Poor; Morally Bankrupt? The Ethics of Debt Discharge; State of the Union: The Right to Organize, to Bargain Collectively and to Strike; Fabulously Wealthy or Filthy Rich? The Ethics of CEO Compensation; and Buyer Aware: Another Side to Business Ethics. The goal of this course is to provide a sensitive, fair and unshakable economic paradigm grounded in 3,000 years of tradition and practical experience — an ancient, yet fresh spin on how Judaism views the ethics of money. The cost for the course is $80 (includes student textbook). The classes are offered in two locations: from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. beginning Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Bais Chabad Torah Center, 5595 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield; or 7-8:30 p.m. start- ing Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, 6735 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills. The Sunday morning class will include a complimentary breakfast with a chance to schmooze with old friends and introduce yourself to new ones. Sixth-Graders Celebrate Graduation By Giving Back This year, the 300 sixth-graders enrolled in Joe Cornell Entertainment dance classes have chosen the Bear Hug Foundation to be the recipient of their Joe's Crew philanthropic focus. That means the Jan. 24 graduation dance for this season's students will become a dance-for-a-cause to raise money for Bear Hug. The dance-a- thon takes place at Orchard Mall in West Bloomfield. This is the third year that Joe Cornell has designated a worthy non- profit to receive the support and fund- raising efforts of students and families in its dance program. Combined, the past two years raised more than $15,000 for worthy causes. "When we developed the idea for Joe's Crew, to add a leadership compo- nent to our dance program, I wasn't sure if the kids would embrace it," says Steve Jasgur, president of Joe Cornell Entertainment and co-owner with his sister, Becca Schlussel. Joe's Crew students collect pledges from friends and family to sponsor their 90-minute dance-a-thon. Those who raise the most qualify for raffle prizes.
