awarded the Jordan
Schnitzer Book
Pinsker
Award for his recent
book Literary
Passports: The Making of Modernist
Hebrew Fiction in Europe (Stanford
University Press, 2011). The award,
granted yearly by the Association for
Jewish Studies, focuses on particular
areas in Jewish studies. This year, the
award honors a book published
between 2007-2011 in the category of
Jewish Literature and Linguistics.

Development Associate (CDA) cre-
dential in recognition of outstanding
work with young children. The coun-
cil for Professional Recognition in

tively work with young children in
group settings.

Brian C. Kalt of East
Lansing has received
the Crystal Apple
Award from
Michigan State
University's College
of Education. He was
among 13 outstand-

ing educators to
receive the honor. The author of two
books and many law review articles,
Kalt has demonstrated wonderful
enthusiasm for his students, legal
research and the MSU College of Law.
Kalt teaches constitutional law, torts
and administrative law.

Oakland County
Circuit Court
announced that
effective Dec. 1, an
ombudsman is avail-
able to serve as a
liaison between the
bench and bar in
Serlin
resolving issues that
may arise at the court. Attorney Joel
H. Serlin has been appointed as the
first ombudsman for this new pro-
gram. Serlin is a senior partner at the
Southfield law firm of Seyburn, Kahn,
Ginn, Bess & Serlin PC and the chair
of its litigation department.

University Law
School Distinguished
Professor Robert A.
Sedler of Southfield
has just published a
book titled
Constitutional Law
Sedler
in the United States
(Kluwer Law
International, 2011). Sedler is a distin-
guished professor of law at Wayne
State's Law School, where he has been
a member of the faculty since 1977. He
teaches courses in constitutional law
and conflict of laws, and has published
extensively in both of these fields.

Eight Over Eighty is an annual event at Jewish Senior Life of
Metropolitan Detroit that honors eight senior adults, eighty
years or older, who have dedicated their time, talents and lives to
our community.

To recognize eight senior adults for their lifetime achievements
