DR. MELVYN D.
WOLF, 71, of Jackson,
died Dec. 7, 2011.
He was born Dec.
24, 1939, in Brooklyn,
N.Y., to Leon and Janice
Wolf and relocated to
Michigan with his fam-
Wolf
ily when he was 10.
Dr. Wolf attended the University of
Michigan and received his doctor of
optometry degree from Illinois College
of Optometry in 1963, graduating cum
laude. During this time, he married
Ann Linden of Jackson, Aug. 18, 1962.
After completing his doctorate and
serving three years in the United States
Air Force, Dr. Wolf returned with Ann
to Jackson, where he started and main-
tained his optometry practice for 35
years.
He enjoyed and excelled at golf and
bowling throughout his lifetime, win-
ning nine Grand Slam bowling titles in
Jackson and capturing the Senior PBA
Canadian Open title in 1994. Combining
his passion for the sport with his com-
mitment to follow in the footsteps
of past community leaders, Dr. Wolf
participated in organizing numerous
fundraising events benefiting such orga-
nizations as Big Brothers Big Sisters,
Jackson High School athletic programs,
the formerly named W.A. Foote Hospital
and Hospice of Jackson. Recognizing
the opportunity to formally organize
Jackson Area High School bowling
leagues, he also helped identify quali-
fied coaches, schedule league events and
coordinate tournaments.
Over his lifetime, Dr. Wolf's generos-
ity, dedication to charitable efforts and
appreciation for sportsmanship pre-
served the legacy he worked to uphold.
As a leader, promoter, organizer and
broadcaster, he gained as much as he
gave. He will be remembered for his
sense of humor, insight, candor and
generous heart. His energy and presence
will be missed in the Jackson commu-
nity.
Dr. Wolf is survived by his wife of
49 years, Ann Linden Wolf; sons and
daughters-in-law, David and Kris Wolf
of Kalamazoo, Michael and Jennifer
Wolf of Petoskey, and Barry and Jennifer
Wolf of Jackson; grandchildren, Kaylin
Howell, Jada and Logan Wolf, and Grace
and Olivia Wolf.
Interment at Beth Israel in Jackson.

FOUR GENERATIONS OF HELPING FAMILIES
For 70 years, there's one thing that has never stood in the way of The Ira Kaufman Chapel
working with a family that needs us - money.
During all of the ups and downs of Michigan's history, we have always maintained our
commitment to flexibility on costs. And we always will.
We don't believe in "extras" - we won't charge you for a Shower, and we won't charge you
for Web streaming. But, we will always be fair, whenever you need us.
