A
ll acting careers start some-
where. Jaclyn Jasgur, 15, a
sophomore at Walled Lake
Western High School, will always
be able to say her first lines in the
national spotlight were straight out
of Ozzy Osbourne's signature song,
"Crazy Train."
In a commercial for the 2012 Honda
Pilot sport-utility vehicle, the eight
passengers rock out with an a cappella
version of Ozzy's 1980 heavy metal hit.
Seven seconds into the ad, the camera
zooms in on Jaclyn, who sings Ozzy's
first words as a solo artist: "Ay! Ay!
Ay!"
We asked Jaclyn to tell us about her
distinctive Hollywood debut.
JN: When did you know you wanted
to act?
JJ: I've always been really enthusias-
tic and outgoing, so I thought it would
be something that I'm good at. I just
love acting. I like being dramatic. I
have an uncle who was in a Listerine
commercial, and that influenced me,
too.
JN: How did you get the part?
JJ: We spent the summer in
California, and my agent encouraged
me to check out the parts that were
available through a particular website.
The Honda ad caught our eye. My
mom knew the Ozzy Osbourne song,
and I was familiar with it, so I thought
I'd give it a try.
JN: Did you audition?
JJ: Yes, and I didn't think it went
very well. I was so bad that I was
embarrassed. It was my first real
audition. So when I learned I got a
callback, I said, "Are you kidding me?
You're joking, right?" But once I got
the callback, it gave me confidence.
It made me think, "I can actually do
this."
JN: Did you really know Ozzy
Osbourne's "Crazy Train"?
JJ: I had heard it before, but I didn't
know it well. So I took some time to
learn it better, which helped because
at the audition we were asked to make
all of the instrument noises.
JN: What was the experience like?
JJ: It was a lot of fun. For about two
hours, the casting director had us try
making a lot of instrument sounds
before deciding who would have
which parts in the commercial. I tried
all the sound effects, but ended up
with the singing part.
JN: What was it like to see yourself
on TV for the first time?
JJ: I was proud and embarrassed at
the same time. I'll cover my ears when
I hear my voice, but I'm actually kind
of proud. They play the commercial in
movie theaters, too.
JN: What do your friends say about
seeing you on TV?
JJ: They get excited. They say that
when the commercial is on, they point to
the TV and say,"I go to school with her!"
JN: Besides acting, what are your
other hobbies?
JJ: I play on the Walled Lake Wild,
which is the varsity hockey team for
girls at Walled Lake Central, Western
and Northern high schools. I'm going
to try varsity lacrosse this spring.
JN: What's your career goal or
dream job at this stage of your life?
JJ: Of course, I'd love to be an
actress, but as my mom always says
it's good to have a backup plan. My
favorite TV show is Criminal Minds,
which is about the profilers in the
behavioral analysis unit of the FBI.
That's something else that I'd love to
do, too. Li
