Professors who do

When Wayne State students look to the front of the classroom, they see stars.

At this nationally ranked research university, outstanding faculty members

continuously contribute to the creation of new knowledge. Their breakthroughs

not only affect people's lives — they save them.

Take Karli Rosner, M.D., for example. As director of research in the School

of Medicine's Department of Dermatology, he and his team developed a

treatment that fools cancer cells into destroying themselves. And then there's

Bengt Arnetz, M.D., Ph.D. He's leading research focused on Iraqi refugees in

metropolitan Detroit who were exposed to war — people whose attempts to

move forward are being held back by memories of the past.

Dr. Rosner and Dr. Arnetz are among the many instructors who reach beyond the

books, into the future. Groundbreaking research that occurs on our campus in

Midtown Detroit resonates worldwide, making us healthier, keeping us safer and

sustaining our communities.
